DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome to the free opening event on Saturday June 13 at 10.30am at the Roxy Gallery. Come along\, meet the artists\, and reflect on what belonging means to you. \nPresented by Playing with Fibre A new exhibition at the Roxy Gallery\, Ways of Being: an Exploration of Belonging brings together artists – Deb Jorgenson\, Justin Telfer\, Kay Williams\, Kyra Togo\, Marama Hopkins\, Penina Welsh\, Sue Connor\, and Rebecca O’Connell – to explore questions of belonging. How we belong. Where we belong. \nRunning from June 13 to July 19\, the exhibition features fibre artists from the Northern Rivers whose works invite viewers to consider connections to a sense place\, to self and to others\, and to reflection upon what belonging means to them. \nAs the artists hands have worked threads\, through lines of ancestral and weaving technique linage have been created. Stories of connection to place and people becomes visible. The artworks and stories are interconnected\, weaving together the rich cultural history of some of the diverse people in the region we call home.

DESCRIPTION:The Roxy Gallery is proud to present an exhibition showcasing outstanding works on paper\, generously loaned from the collection of Grafton Regional Gallery. \nFocused on Australian printmaking\, this exhibition brings together etchings\, linocuts\, woodcuts\, drypoints\, and lithographs from established masters and emerging voices. From the technically exquisite etchings of Jorg Schmeisser and the bold woodcuts of John Pratt to the drypoint intimacy of Noel McKenna and the powerful lithography of Judy Watson\, the exhibition traces the rich history and contemporary vitality of the print medium in Australia. \nThe exhibition includes distinct works by Dickie Minyintiri (Kapi Tjukurpa)\, Nyukana Baker\, and Mapiya Davery from the APY and Pitjantjatjara lands. \nAlso featured are acclaimed printmakers Dean Bowen\, Peter Lyssiotis\, Locust Jones\, and Pia Larson\, alongside the infamous Michael Leunig  with some distinctive etched works. \nRounding out the collection are prints by Alison Williams\, Ben Reid\, Bill Moseley\, Cat Poljski\, Charles Blackman\, Cleo Wilkinson\, Darren Bryant\, Graham Nudge\, Gwen Scott\, Heather Shimmen\, James Pasakos\, James Whitington\, John Marshall\, Kate Zizys\, Leonie Lane\, Melissa Smith\, Barbie Kjar\, Rochelle Summerfield\, Vera Zulumovski\, and Allison Carroll. \nLaunch Event – Saturday 2 May\, 11am\nJoin us for morning tea\, an introduction and a chat. DESCRIPTION:Border Song \nSaturday March 7 – Sunday April 19\nLaunch event: Saturday March 7 from 1pm \nRoxy Gallery is delighted to welcome back the Practising Artist Network Group (PAN) with their newest exhibition\, Border Song.  A vibrant and varied showcase that highlights the creative breadth within this group. Last seen in the gallery in 2022\, PAN returns with a diverse gathering of established and emerging artists who each bring their own voice\, medium and story to this beautifully layered exhibition. \nInspired by the themes in the Elton John and Bernie Taupin song of the same name\, Border Song invites viewers to reflect on peace\, harmony\, and the search for connection in a world that feels increasingly complex. For the artists of PAN\, the theme resonates strongly with the region they call home. The Northern Rivers offers a sense of calm\, belonging and serene landscape that threads through many of the works. \nThe exhibition brings together a range of media including oils\, acrylics\, pastels\, ink\, and sculptural forms. While each artist interprets the theme in their own way\, the works share a unifying sensitivity: reflections on family\, relationships\, environment\, and the intimate ties that anchor us. \nAlongside group exhibitions across the region — including past displays at Roxy Gallery\, Northern Rivers Community Gallery\, Ballina and Lone Goat Gallery\, Byron Bay — PAN also supports a lively program of social and creative activities\, from life drawing to plein air sessions. It is a group built on shared inspiration and a passion for artistic growth\, offering members a place to create\, connect and exhibit. \nThis year’s exhibition features work from a wide range of the PAN artists\, including our very talented local artists Marion Arent\, Keith Cameron and Wendy McGain and many others from the Northern Rivers. \nCome along to the launch event this coming Saturday 7th from 1pm to meet some of the artists and have a wee sip and nibble. \nMake sure to visit the gallery during March and April for a thoughtful and uplifting journey through many voices of Northern Rivers artists. \n

SUMMARY:Mario Sanchez: Playing with Leaves
DESCRIPTION:Playing with Leaves is rooted in a childhood game\, in which Mario collected leaves to create images – planes\, faces\, cars – using them to tell stories that helped him make sense of my world.   \nMario has since revisited this childhood ‘leaf game’ and it has evolved into a profound artistic exploration. Meticulously crafting realistic leaves from leather\, capturing their vibrancy and stages of decomposition. This exhibition showcases the unique sensory pleasure that forms when playing with leaves.  \nYou’ll encounter works that explore emotions and others that celebrate the whimsical ideas\, forms and beauty in child’s play. \nYour participation will be requested in an installation of leaves to play with and see what stories the leaves can tell you or be surprised at the stories that you can tell with them. \nThis exhibition is more than a showcase\, it’s an experience – a whimsical journey through time to revisit the joy\, simplicity and wonder of childhood. A journey that will leave viewers looking for fallen leaves play with everywhere they go.  \nPlaying with leaves can be many things – creative\, therapeutic\, mindful\, but most importantly\, it is fun!

SUMMARY:Christine Spedding & Leigh Arnold: Strings Attached
DESCRIPTION:This immersive showcase redefines String Art through luminous two and three dimensional works\, activated by ultraviolet light.  \nChristine and Leighboth bring neurodivergent perspectives to their practices\, transforming mathematical concepts into a stimulating visual and spatial experience.   \nChristine has always been fascinated with pattern and colour and has recently added string to that list. She now utilises string within her creative practice — from intricate works to large-scale installations.  \nLeigh\, a prolific local and international artist\, inspired by string theory (unrelated!) and quantum physics\, reimagines his hand-drawn mathematical artworks as three-dimensional structures.   \nTogether\, Christine and Leigh replace pen with thread\, canvas with timber\, and equations with radiant\, laser-like geometries.  \nBy using string to connect a series of points on opposing planes\, these connections\, governed by mathematical principles\, transform into complex\, visually stunning designs. The exhibition uses ultraviolet lighting (black light) to highlight the lines and forms made by the strings and cast shadows that morph as viewers move through the space.   \nThe gallery will be open through to 6pm on Thursdays during this show to take advantage of the lower natural light\, which intensifies the works.

SUMMARY:UNDERSTORIES: Things Fallen & Tidescapes - Karena Wynn-Moylan
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Karena Wynn-Moylan shows the culmination of nearly a decade’s work\, this exhibition unites both series in this collection in a single space for the first time.  \nRunning from June 27 – August 2\, the show features pioneering work that redefines oil painting through luminous\, watercolour-inspired techniques.  \nKarena’s career spans painting\, music\, film\, and radio. She has won numerous prizes in recognition for her work across a range of media\, held 18 solo shows\, and participated in over 200 group exhibitions. Her work is held in private and public collections worldwide.  \nIn UNDERSTORIES\, she subverts traditional oil painting by layering transparent glazes from light to dark\, harnessing the canvas’s raw whiteness as her only light source. The result is a radiant interplay of decay and renewal in coastal\, forest\, and garden fragments—rendered with Renaissance-inspired precision and modern material science.  \n“By isolating patterns from nature’s chaos\, I’m documenting dissolution—but also the quiet beauty within it\,” says Wynn-Moylan. The poly-cotton canvases\, selected for their ultra-smooth brilliance\, intensify the glow of her hand-ground pigments\, merging watercolour’s delicacy with oil’s permanence. A distinctive approach you won’t see elsewhere.
