Mario Sanchez: Playing with Leaves

Playing with Leaves is rooted in a childhood game, in which Mario collected leaves to create images – planes, faces, cars – using them to tell stories that helped him make sense of my world.  

Mario has since revisited this childhood ‘leaf game’ and it has evolved into a profound artistic exploration. Meticulously crafting realistic leaves from leather, capturing their vibrancy and stages of decomposition. This exhibition showcases the unique sensory pleasure that forms when playing with leaves. 

You’ll encounter works that explore emotions and others that celebrate the whimsical ideas, forms and beauty in child’s play.

Your participation will be requested in an installation of leaves to play with and see what stories the leaves can tell you or be surprised at the stories that you can tell with them.

This exhibition is more than a showcase, it’s an experience – a whimsical journey through time to revisit the joy, simplicity and wonder of childhood. A journey that will leave viewers looking for fallen leaves play with everywhere they go. 

Playing with leaves can be many things – creative, therapeutic, mindful, but most importantly, it is fun!
